SECURTY INNOVATION SYMPOSIUM

The ESSEN SECURTY INNOVATION SYMPOSIUM, taking place in the context of the SECURITY ESSEN International Lead Fair from 4-6 October 2010, is offering a multifaceted platform for civil-security related presentation and discussion, including relevant safety aspects. The Symposium will reunite experts from policy, business, industry and research in the city of Essen/Germany, the Cultural Capital of Europe 2010.

 

The Symposium will in particular enquire needs for security innovation at the interface between social and cultural systems. Security being a public good affecting societies as a whole, it is becoming increasingly clear that the public and private sector must follow similar goals in order to protect people and infrastructure. The Symposium therefore aims to create networks of different stakeholders and experts as well as to make new concepts and insights relevant for civil security accessible to interested communities including the public. The Symposium is a venue for exchange of knowledge and experience between different world of experience and contexts of usage of security-related products. It features keynotes, panels and working groups and is directed towards and international audience. 

 

The ESSEN SECURITY INNOVATION SYMPOSIUM is making a strong contribution to a better understanding of the steps necessary for converting research into potential for innovation. Among the main topics are:

• EU security policies

• Standards for security and protection of the citizens

• Future Scenarios for European Critical Infrastructure Protection

• Supply chain protection

• Future security threats and the environment: from bioengineering to environmental crime

• Managing and communicating security information

• Counter-Terrorism Crisis Communication

• A comprehensive approach to disaster management and civil protection

• Strengthening the weakest link: Business Continuity for SMEs

• Integrating safety and security?

The Symposium will include a security research information day with the participation of the Research Execution Agency (REA), where the new call for proposals for security research projects in the EU 7th Framework Programme will be presented and tailored information for submission of research proposals from industry and research given. It will also facilitate networking between potential applicants. Moreover, it will be discussed how security research can best provide concrete results for end-users from industry and economy, and integrate end-user needs in ongoing and future projects.
